A Program of Continued Learning and Growth for Those Who Companion the Bereaved
Workshop Topic for 2024:
Guilt, Shame, Anger and Companioning the Mourner:
helping the bereaved navigate the overwhelming challenges of grieving a loss
Description
People become grief companions for various reasons. Many take on this role because of their own experiences with loss. Some serve as a grief companion in their professional, vocational, or volunteer role. This workshop is designed to advance one’s skills in companioning the bereaved. An emphasis will be placed on the complicated emotions of guilt, shame, and anger.
Grief is a healthy response to the experience of loss. Grieving s also a very stressful time. Sometimes the emotions of guilt, shame and anger can create additional distress., being roadblocks that stifle our ability to heal.
In this two-day training workshop, we will:
- explore the meaning of guilt and shame along with their likely places of origin;
- identify the varying unique faces of guilt and shame in the mourner;
- gain an understanding of the impact of painful emotions on the journey of grief;
- learn companioning approaches to respond compassionately and assist the bereaved with building resiliency.
