Personal Calling and Social Conscience: A Day of Reflection with John Neafsey

“This is what Yahweh asks of you: only this, to act justly, to love tenderly and to walk humbly with your God. ”

- Mich 6:6-8

This day will explore the relationship between personal calling and social conscience.  Vocation is  not only about “me” and my personal fulfillment but about “us” and the common good.

In our personal discernment, and in our efforts to help others discern the call of  the Spirit in their lives, we must seek a balance between contemplative, inward listening and socially engaged listening, between listening to our hearts and listening with our hearts for the ways that the needs and sufferings of the world are crying out for intelligent, compassionate attention from us.

Throughout the day, there will be opportunities for both quiet personal reflection and lively group discussion.  We will pay special attention to callings to service, justice, resistance, and peacemaking in today’s world.
