Evening with Macrina Wiederkehr and Velma Frye

This special evening facilitated by Macrina and Velma will feature wisdom and music from their books and CDs, time for book and CD signing, and a dessert reception.

Thursday, November 9, 2017
The evening begins at 7:00 pm.

Macrina Wiederkehr OSB, is well known for her creative writing and retreat ministry. As a Benedictine sister she is passionate about sharing her monastic spirituality with others.  Her deep country roots from her childhood in Arkansas connect her to the earth.  Here is where she first entered into the flow of dawn and dusk, day and night, prayer and work.  Her understanding of these sacred pauses has deepened over the years through the prayerful rhythm of community living at Scholastica Monastery in Fort Smith, Arkansas.  She is currently working on her 9th book, Fifty-Two Teachers.

Velma Frye is a pianist, vocalist, music educator, and lyricist.  She has composed numerous songs that have been sung around the world in university and community choirs.  She has given concerts in Russia and Germany and has appeared on Garrison Keillor’s “A Prairie Home Companion.”  Velma teaches, records, and performs a wide range of music and leads retreats and women’s singing circles.

Macrina and Velma’s collaborative work weaves mindfulness, music, and the hours of the day.  Velma’s CD, “Seven Sacred Pauses” is subtitled “Singing Mindfully Dawn Through Dark,” and Macrina’s book Seven Sacred Pauses is subtitled “Living Mindfully Through the Hours of the Day.”

Cost of $15 includes presentation and dessert reception.
